Features

Everything you need to grab stills from videos

Pausing and taking a screenshot gets you a blurry, cropped image. Frame Capture saves the real frame, cleanly.

Frame-by-frame precision

Hard to stop on the right moment? Step forward and back one frame at a time, at the video's real frame rate, with a thumbnail timeline and millisecond timestamps.

HD and original resolution

Screenshots are capped at your screen size. Export the frame at 720p, 1080p HD or the video's original resolution, without player controls in the shot.

JPG or PNG export

Choose JPG with adjustable quality (70–100%) for sharing, or lossless PNG for editing. Frames save straight to your gallery.

Burst & range capture Premium

Fast action is easy to miss. Save up to 30 consecutive frames in one tap, or one frame every few seconds across a section of the video.

Crop presets for social Premium

Export ready-to-post images in 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 or 16:9 for feeds, Stories and thumbnails.

Private by design

Frames are extracted on your device. Your videos and saved frames are never uploaded, and there is no account to create.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a photo from a video on Android?

Open the video in Frame Capture, step frame by frame to the moment you want, then tap save. The frame is written to your gallery as a JPG or PNG under Pictures/FrameCapture. Learn how to extract frames from a video on Android →

Why are screenshots of videos blurry?

A screenshot captures your screen, not the video, so it is limited to your display size, includes any player controls, and depends on when you hit pause. Saving the decoded frame at the video's own resolution, on a frame with little motion, gives a much sharper result. Learn how to get a high-quality photo from a video →

Can I save a frame from a video without losing quality?

Yes, up to the resolution of the video itself. Choose Original resolution and PNG for a lossless copy of the decoded frame, or JPG at 95–100% quality for a smaller file that looks nearly identical. Compare JPG vs PNG for video frames →

Should I save video frames as JPG or PNG?

Use JPG for photos you want to share, since files are much smaller. Use PNG when you plan to edit the image further or when the frame contains sharp text, such as a screen recording. Read the JPG vs PNG guide →

How do I extract multiple frames from a video at once?

Frame Capture Premium has Burst capture, which saves 5 to 30 consecutive frames in one tap, and Range export, which saves one frame every 0.5, 1, 2 or 5 seconds between two points (up to 100 frames). Learn how to extract multiple frames from a video →

Can I make a YouTube thumbnail from a video frame?

Yes. Pick a sharp, expressive frame, export it at HD or Original resolution, and use the 16:9 crop preset so it fits YouTube's thumbnail format before adding text in your editor. See how to make a thumbnail from a video frame →

Is Frame Capture free?

Yes. Frame Capture is free to download and supported by ads. An optional one-time Premium purchase removes ads and unlocks PNG, HD and Original exports, burst and range capture, crop presets, and custom file names and folders. Compare free and Premium →

Does Frame Capture upload my videos?

No. Frames are extracted on your phone, and your videos and saved frames are never uploaded. The app does use Google services for ads, analytics and crash reports, which are described in the privacy policy. Read the privacy policy →
